Synopsis and Plot Summary

A story about a modern-day woman who travels to the Qing Dynasty. She becomes embroiled in the schemes within the palace and falls into a romance with a prince.

Luo Qingchuan (Yang Mi) is the successor of an antique shop. During a wedding engagement, she chances upon a mysterious forest after trying to chase after a Qing Dynasty portrait that was swept into the air. When she finally grabs ahold of the portrait, she realizes that her feet are no longer standing above ground and she falls into a tunnel that takes her to the Qing Dynasty. She crosses paths with the Crown Prince (Song Fengyan) who is at the center of power but fears that his time may be fleeting. She meets the 8th Prince (Feng Shaofeng), a playful troublemaker and the 4th Prince (He Shengming), an unpredictable man who trusts no one. Each and every encounter with the princes start her on a marvellous journey that touches the heart.

Fun Facts

  • It is the first installment in the Gong franchise.
  • The story takes place during a time when the nine sons of the Emperor fought over the throne. In history, that time is recorded as the Nine Lord War during the reign of Kangxi.
  • As Yang Mi and Feng Shaofeng have worked together before, they were comfortable with each other and were able to form amazing chemistry on the set such that filming came very naturally.
  • Yu Zheng won Best Screenplay at the 16th Asian Television Awards.
  • Yang Mi won The Magnolia Award for Most Popular Actress at the 17th Shanghai TV Festival. She was also nominated for Best Actress.
  • When Legend of Zhen Huan started airing in 2012, Gong was dubbed as the prequel as it contains the story from the previous generation about Kangxi Emperor and the future Yongzheng Emperor.
  • There were many rumors that Yang Mi and Feng Shaofeng were dating in real life and the two often joked about it as well. In January 2012, Yang Mi and Hawick Lau went public about their dating status and they married in 2014. Feng Shaofeng started dating Ni Ni in 2012 though the two broke up after three years.
