- Darker 3 airs four years after season 2 ended.
- Filming lasted more than two months beginning on November 21, 2016 and ending on February 2, 2017.
- Filming took place in Chongqing and Taiwan.
- Although Guo Jingfei and other cast members return, leading lady Gan Lu did not return for season 3.
- Shawn Wei replaced Liang Dawei to play the role of Xue Tian. Zhu Jie takes over for the role of Yin Jian which was played by Jing Chao in season 1 and Zhang Ruihan in season 2.
