Synopsis and Plot Summary

The first part of the Condor Trilogy follows Guo Jing as a young man who through the help of Huang Rong journeys jianghu to become a revered martial arts hero.

During the Southern Song Dynasty, Guo Jing and Yang Kang were taken in by the Seven Freaks of Jiangnan and Qiu Chu Ji of Quan Zhen Sect after their families were massacred. Eighteen years later, Guo Jing (Yang Xuwen) travels south under the orders of his teachers and easily becomes friends with Huang Rong (Li Yitong). He also encounters Yang Kang (Chen Xingxu) who is his sworn brother by birth though Yang Kang has accepted the enemy as his father. Guo Jing and Huang Rong fall into a romance though their relationship is fraught with opposition on both sides. In their journey, they meet many martial artists and continue to improve in their skill. Guo Jing grows from a dim-witted man to a hero who fights for the people.

• It is produced and distributed by Huace Film & TV in collaboration with iQiYi, Jianxin Picture and Perfect World Pictures.
• Yang Xuwen and Li Yitong won newcomer awards in the 2017 Chinese Drama Awards.
• Despite starring unknowns as the main leads, the drama won praise for being faithful to the novel.
• Director Jeff Chiang shared that he looked at many newcomers but couldn't find a suitable Guo Jing until an assistant director suggested Yang Xuwen. Yang Xuwen who was filming in Hengdian at the time immediately got on a train and travelled four hours to go to Shanghai. Jeff Chiang developed good feelings towards Yang Xuwen due to his sincerity and after meeting Yang Xuwen in person who went through screen test, Jeff Chiang knew that he had found Guo Jing.
• For the sake of the role, Yang Xuwen read the original novel, the script and watched other adaptations of Legend of the Condor Heroes.
• The 72-year-old Wang Kui Rong who played the leader of the Seven Freaks of Jiangnan did his own wirework.
• The actors who played the Seven Freaks of Jiangnan formed a close relationship with each other in real life, addressing each other as big brother, second brother and so on.
• Meng Zi Yi injured her waist while filming and after getting treatment, she went back to work right away so as not to delay filming.
• Upon learning that he had the role, Chen Xingxu had an internal breakdown. It was only until he familiarized himself with the original novel and the script and received the advice of veteran actor Michael Miu that his worries slowly dissipated.
