Synopsis and Plot Summary
I Am What I Am tells the story of left-behind teenager Ah Juan and his friends Ah Mao and Ah Gou from Guandong province who train under the retired lion king to join the traditional lion dance competition.
Ah Juan lives alone in the city. By chance, he becomes inspired by a young girl who has the same name as him, so he makes up his mind to form a lion dance team with his friends Ah Mao and Ah Gou with the intention to break the shackles of reality and to finally fight for himself at least once. On the way to deliver food, he is ridiculed by the lion dancers in the city, but he always bears what his Master has said in mind. With the drum beating in his heart, and the sun shining through the cracks in the building, the boy who danced alone from dark to dawn becomes a "lion".
