Synopsis and Plot Summary

A wondrous romance between Liang Qu who is cursed to live as a human and a cat and Miao Xiaowen, the developer of an app that interprets cat language. If he falls in love, the curse cannot be lifted, but at the same time, the woman he loves could fall into danger. How will he choose?

Liang Qu (Sehun) was cursed by a cat when he was a teenager and forced to leave the girl that he loves to begin life as half human and half cat. Nine years later, internet product manager Miao Xiaowan (Janice Wu) has developed a "cat language translator" app. Overjoyed and feeling a sense of accomplishment, Xiaowan never expected that the app would be publicly criticized by animal expert Liang Qu. In order to make Liang Qu take back his negative review, Xiaowan becomes Liang Qu's assistant and follows him in learning the cat language. As the two develop feelings for each other, Liang Qu discovers that it is not their first time falling in love...

EXO member Oh Se-hun makes his movie debut in the Chinese film Catman.
It is Chinese actor Song Weilong's first movie.
Song Weilong who had just turned 17 at the time was the youngest cast member.BR>Filming took place in Seoul and Busan, South Korea.
Filming was completed in 2016 with an expected release in 2017. However, it was shelved likely due to the Hallyu Ban, an unofficial ban that was in effect in China to restrict all forms of Hallyu aka Korean Wave due to the political disagreement between China and Korea over THAAD in 2016.
It secured a release in 2021 five years after it was shot with many taking it as a sign that the Hallyu Ban has been lifted.
It reunites Janice Wu with Li Xinliang and Xu Ke after My Amazing Boyfriend.
After an insider claimed the March 14 premiere for Catman has been postponed, a staff confirmed that reports. No reason was provided.
It was announced that Catman will premiere exclusively on iQIYI on May 21, 2021.
On May 18, 2021, a kissing scene between Sehun and Janice Wu trended online after Catman was suddenly released on the Chinese video platform PPTV and taken down after 4 hours. The same night MGTV dropped a new poster to reveal that Catman is coming soon on MGTV. iQIYI also revealed that the May 21 release has been postponed.
