Synopsis and Plot Summary
The story follows a Kuomintang operative on a mission to get close to a university student in order to infiltrate the Communist underground, yet he eventually finds himself becoming drawn to their ideals.
In 1936, Li Nansheng (Zhu Yilong) who is a promising young student undergoing cadre training is taken to Shanghai by Chen Moqun (Wang Yang) who heads the Kuomintang secret service in Shanghai. Through his informant, Chen Moqun has uncovered a contact point of the Shanghai Underground which reveals Hujiang University student Zhu Yizhen (Tong Yao) to be a liaison of the Communist party. Chen Moqun orders Lin Nansheng to approach Zhu Yizhen so that he can find a way into their operations.
As he carried out his mission, the honest and upright Lin Nansheng comes to admire the courage and patriotism exhibited by the people that he has been trying to deceive. In the fight against the Japanese puppet regime, Lin Nansheng makes repeated military achievements and uses his unique identity as cover to make important contributions to the founding of the People's Republic of China.
