Synopsis and Plot Summary

A story that revolves around a group of intellectuals during the 1950's who participate in the land reclamation project spearheaded by the army.

Lin Fanqing (Lin Jiangguo) is a scholar who decides inherit his late teacher's business even if it means having to part ways with his lover Xu Jingzhi (Xu Baihui). For the sake of love, Xu Jingzhi travels all the way to Xinjiang to find Lin Fanqing but arrives on his wedding day as he is about to marry another woman. Jingzhi vows that she will never marry and adopts a child from the grasslands, not knowing that he is the missing son of Lin Fanqing and his wife Hong Liu (Xing Shan). Yang Yueliang (Ma Jing) rushes back to the military base for her wedding with Qi Huaizheng (Cheng Qinshen) without knowing that he has another woman in his heart. Despite their complicated relationships, these men and women devote their lives to the success of the project.
