Synopsis and Plot Summary
The task of fighting monsters is in the hands of a young literati, a demon hunter and a poet who sneak into the palace during the Lantern Festival.
The city of Chang'an bustles with life yet a demonic energy permeates the darkness. The public officials are entering the palace to attend the banquet for the Lantern Festival and among the attendees are the prime minister Ling Xuan Shang Shi (Law Kar-ying) and his beloved disciple Yue Banjiao (Shi Xuejing). Yue Banjiao catches a faint glimpse of the imperial concubine's transformation into a tree demon and immediately tackles her in spite of her master's warnings for her to stop. The emperor throws Yue Banjiao to prison where she meets a young literati named Du Ziteng (Zhao Pinlin). After the two escape, they meet the immortal swordsman Mister Bai. A small team of demon hunters gather to save the nation, but unbeknownst to them is a mastermind taking charge behind the scenes.
