Synopsis and Plot Summary

A story during the ancient times that revolves around Qin Wentian, a man who undergoes many transformations in his quest to rebuild the Yi Kingdom and defend it from the demonic tribe.

Qin Wentian (Peter Sheng) is the adopted son of the Qin Family who was frail and sickly since he was a child. The Qin Family was forced to send him away at a young age to fulfill their end of a marriage alliance with the Bai Family. However, the Bai Family reneges on their promise to form an alliance with the Ye Family of the Imperial City instead. They plot to take the life of Qin Wentian, but a revolt allows him the chance to escape. The 3rd Prince Yi Tianjiao (Liu Runnan) has usurped the throne and sentences the Qin Family to death.

As the surviving member of his family, Qin Wentian vows to bring the perpetrators to justice and to rebuild the Yi Kingdom. He makes many friends along the way and begins his journey towards martial cultivation. He comes under the tutelage of the Jiu Hua Men where he meets Yi Wuwei (Xiang Zuo), a fallen Crown Prince, and Mo Qingcheng (Olivia Wang).

Filming took place in Hengdian World Studios, Yunnan, Xinjiang, etc.
Filming lasted around four months from June 2017 to October 12, 2017.
Following Legend of Jade Sword, it is the second high fantasy costume drama by Beijing Joy Eastern. There are many crossovers from the costume, the props, the set design and the special effects as both have the same production team.

It is Olivia Wang's first costume fantasy drama, so it was rare to see the actress in long hair and ancient costume
For both Peter Sheng and Olivia Wang, it is the most fighting that they've done for a production. They tried to avoid using stunt doubles as much as possible and insisted to do their own fighting scenes.
Peter Sheng's filming schedule would often last 12-13 hours each day, but he still kept to his workout routine.
Filming was intended to take place during the summer but due to rainy days in June, the director decided to film in the rain. He praised the cast for their professionalism and thought the rain added a piercing beauty to the scenes.
