Synopsis and Plot Summary

The trio comprised of constable Kong Xueli, inn owner Lian Haiping and forensic examiner Fang Dong have strange cases to tackle. They do not fear darkness and use knowledge to sweep away feudal superstitions.

The Manchu government was rife with corruption towards the end of the Qing dynasty. From the officials to the masses, many were ignorant of the developments in the world and remained superstitious of gods and monsters. People can only look to the sky and pray for blessings as their sufferings are ignored.

In the southern town of Xiangcheng, the cynical, misfit constable Kong Xueli (Zhang Yujian) has arrived. With his unconventional mind and scientific theories, he uncovers big and small scams one by one to completely change the perspectives of the beautiful inn owner Lian Haiping (Liang Jie), the bookish Fang Dong (Wu Chongxuan) and the people of Xiangcheng.
