Synopsis and Plot Summary

After being ravaged by relentless warfare, Beixuan Kingdom gains a short period of peace. Chang Geng (Chen Zheyuan) is an ordinary boy from the countryside. When he almost fell prey to a pack of wolves once, he was rescued by Shen Shiliu (Tan Jianci). Out of gratitude, Chang Geng acknowledges Shen Shiliu as his foster father.

War erupts once again due to the invasion of foreign tribes. Amidst the chaos, Chang Geng discovers a shocking truth about everything that he thought he knew. He is the fourth prince of Beixuan while Shen Shiliu is none other than Commander Gu Yun. Gu Yun fights off the wolf tribe and escorts Chang Geng to the capital under orders from the palace.

The new emperor Li Feng is eager to prove himself despite his lack of foundation. He begins to question Gu Yun's loyalty and sends him away to guard the borders in an attempt to strip him off his power. Meanwhile, Chang Geng becomes part of the Linyuan Pavillion by chance and studies under the tutelage of skilled masters. After experiencing many hardships, he grows into a talented man with the ability to govern a nation. As Beixuan faces enemies on all sides, Chang Geng makes his return and overcomes each adversary that comes his way.

The first conceptual poster was recalled after accusations that it has plagiarized the work of another artist.
Sha Po Lang is one of the classics from author Priest who is known for writing BL (Boys' Love) novels.
Two of Priest's BL novels Tian Ya Ke and Sha Po Lang were both adapted into drama in 2020.
Song Jiyang from The Untamed also joins the cast.
It is a reunion between Li Hongyi and Sun Anke after Master Devil Do Not Kiss Me back when she was still using the screen name Zhang Xiaowei.
