Synopsis and Plot Summary

A story about three brothers during the Republican era who set aside their differences during the country's time of need.

During the 1920's, the six provinces of Jiangdong were under the control of the military and the triad. Despite their opposite backgrounds, Jing Shichen (Han Yuchen) and Gu Zhaoli (Lin Jiangguo) have been friends since they were young. Both were abducted by a human smuggler and in captivity, they meet a beggar named Ming Zi (Li Jian). After escaping, the three go on to become sworn brothers.

Years later, Gu Zhaoli takes over as the leader of the triads. Jing Shichen follows in his father's footsteps to become a military officer. Ming Zi makes a living as an informant. Jing Shichen commits a grave mistake that turns the brothers against each other. Thought to be dead, Ming Zi returns with a new identity and a thirst for vengeance. The Marco Polo Bridge Incident ignites the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War, thus giving the brothers a difficult choice to make.
