Synopsis and Plot Summary

Set amidst the period of changing dynasties, it tells a story about Dugu Jialuo and Yang Jian as they evade troubled times to usher in a new golden era of peace.

After their family was wrongfully persecuted due to the machinations of a corrupt official, Dugu Jialuo (Joe Chen) held strict expectations for herself to be independent and strong even at a young age. Her husband Yang Jian (Chen Xiao) is a man of great spirit. He is a warrior, skilled in battle, who rises up the ranks to become the Emperor. With Dugu Jialuo by his side, they succeed in uniting the country under the Sui Dynasty. The husband and wife stay in a monogamous relationship despite their imperial status and come to be revered by people as the two saints due to their extraordinary contributions to a new golden age.

Filming took place in Hengdian World Studios.
Filming lasted four months beginning on March 23, 2017 and ending July 2017.
The creators of Virtuous Queen of Han return with another female-centric historical drama.
It is Joe Chen's return to costume drama after five years since playing Dongfang Bubai in Swordsman.
Before the drama started filming, there was already another production titled Legend of Dugu about the story of Dugu Jialuo and Yang Jian.
Historically, Yang Jian remained monogomous to his wife despite being the King.
Joe Chen was arrested for drunk driving in January 2018. There were rumros that Queen Dugu was supposed to air soon but had to be delayed due to the scandal
